About Philip Bateman

Trusted advisor. Professional best friend.
Strategic facilitator across family, business, and capital.
I was born in South Africa, raised in England, and now call Australia home. The first twenty-five years of my life were shaped by our family businesses – from supermarkets, to automotive repair workshops, aged care, and mobility supply.
That foundation gave me a deep, lived understanding of business, sales, marketing, client relations, the human dynamics behind succession.
I’ve lived the challenges of business continuity during significant health events that incapacitate owners, like my father.
Over the past two decades, I’ve walked alongside people with big lives and big responsibilities – from CEOs and fund managers to family business owners dominating their industries. Whether advising on sales strategy, branding and marketing innovation, investor engagement, capital raising, family transition or business acquisitions, I help my clients stay centred, make confident decisions, and bring the right people to the table when it matters most.
I call this Bateman’s Advisory. Since 2009, I’ve led over 120 projects across the Asia-Pacific, North America, and Europe – supporting private families, SMEs, ASX Top 100 companies, and government departments.
A Career
in Layers
I began in technology and strategy – building eCommerce platforms, managing digital transformations, and leading growth for enterprise software firms. From there, I bought into a commercialisation consultancy, diving into the world of environmentally focused startups and investor readiness just as the Global Financial Crisis was beginning, then exited this to begin Bateman’s Advisory.
In parallel, I completed a Master’s in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, studied Blockchain at MIT, trained in Sentient Strategy® with Alan Weiss, and built capabilities in authentic leadership and communication.
My practice is informed by deep work in technology, climate, manufacturing and agricultural innovation. I hold significant education in impact investing, am a Member of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia (RIAA), and an Advisor for both the SAN group and the Family Business Association (FBA) of Australia.
I’ve been a strategist, journalist, filmmaker, founder, and advisor – but always, I’ve been about one thing: helping people see clearly and act wisely.
A Trusted
Circle
A Trusted Circle

This is not a solo practice. I work closely with a hand-picked network of best-of-breed professionals across law, finance, and investing.
One of the most important collaborations is with my fiancée, Nicole Stewart – a somatic leadership coach who works with ambitious women navigating life’s major transitions.
Together, we support clients through succession, inheritance, divorce, and legacy – bringing both structural clarity and emotional depth.
It’s a trusted circle, built to give you the right support, at the right time – from family board strategy to individual transformation.

My Third Space
Beyond business and family, I believe we all need a third space – a place to reflect, recharge, and reconnect with what matters. It might be ritual, art, nature, service, sport, or simply quiet thinking time. It’s where leaders draw from something deeper than their to-do list – and I encourage every client I work with to find and nurture theirs.
For me, that space has been shaped by service, ceremony, and high-pressure environments. I’m a trained specialist in conflict resolution and emergency management, having led fire and critical response teams at some of Australia’s largest volunteer-run festivals.
I’ve been to Burning Man nine times, serving as both a Black Rock Ranger and Temple Guardian, often standing as a ‘Sandman’ – the last line of defence for the largest ceremonial fires on Earth.
I love to dance, listen to all kinds of music, and have watched thousands of films. I actively pursue personal development through the Demartini Method, Vipassana, and 5Rhythms, have extensive motorsport experience, and won the 2017 Australian Tarmac Rally Championship.
I’m also a passionate Freemason, currently serving as a Masonic Ambassador to the United Grand Lodge of Victoria, and was Assistant to the Grand Master in 2024–25. That work is about presence, tradition, and honouring spaces where reflection and integrity are actively practiced.
These experiences shape how I hold space – in high-stakes moments, in sensitive family dynamics, and in the quiet, critical pauses between decisions.
I believe in doing great work with great people.
If that sounds like you, let’s talk.
What if you had someone to shape a lifetime plan with,
not just financially, one that included your business,
family, health, and purpose?
