Canon 24-70 F4L IS with Macro

I said previously I was going to replace the 18-135 f3.5-5.6 with 24-105 f4L;

I went with the newer 24-70 f4L mainly because it’s got a macro mode and I figure for the amount of time I’m seeking ultra close, having a separate 100mm f2.8L might be overkill, and apparently the barrel distortion at 24mm and that it’s soft before f8 (something I’d encountered when testing) makes the 24-70 a better choice.

I don’t have the extra reach of the 105, but I figure I’ll A. Walk closer or B. Switch to the 70-200 f4. The next major job has lots of engineering bits in so the macro will get its run – thing is, as you can see from the picture, I will need to get the glass two inches away from the subject.. Hmmm.
